Jaymer's Match Reports - September 1999

September 11
Liverpool (2) v ManU (3)

Liverpool were non-starters in the 1st half. Two own goals by Carragher and a strong Cole header put the Mancs up by 3. This match was the debut of Taibi, new italian keeper for ManU. His error allowed Liverpool their 1st but he had tremendous saves later to thwart Liverpool and earned Man of the Match.

Misc. Notes

September 11
Arsenal (2) v Aston Villa (1)

September 11
Chelsea (1) v Newcastle (0)

I only heard this game on Radio. Robson is now on board in the last break due to international play and we faced a tough match. We'll get back into it soon enough. Their only score on a penalty. Only a couple of attacks from us - Ferguson almost scoring except for a great save from DeGoey. (radio)

September 12
Bradford City (1) v Spurs (1)

Another great game - it was wonderful to see Bradford fight and fight till the end for a well-deserved point from the draw. The announcer was commenting at 80 minutes about how Bradford realizes the top flight is tough... and then at 85 about yo need more than what Bradford had to be successful. Thankfully the Bradford players couldn't hear him - they just kept on playing harder and harder (ala ManU when trailing). Throughtout the game though, it was almost as if you were watching a lower division game with many unforced errors and give aways. The ball was sent end to end with lots of errors and errant passes - but perhaps thats what made it an entertaining game as well. I've watched tehe last 15 minutes twice over and just love the spirit of the Claret and Gold in this game. (tv)

September 19
Newcastle (8) v Sheffield Wed. (0)

This was the Sunday game, but which TV promoter in his right mind would choose the league's bottom two clubs over ManU? So I didn't get to see this game and for some reason didn't tune it in on Radio. Of couse this was the largest top flight win in 70+ years with Shearer getting 5 (2 pen.). A great welcome home to Bobby Robson for his 1st St. James match. One match report said Sheffield's inadequacies made Newcastle look like "planet killers". Well, since this match, Sheffield were beaten the following week only 1-nil by Sunderland and even beat Wimbledon 5-1 (amazing) after that! So, you take the great wins when you can get them and to hell with the pundits who want to steal you success! (did not see)

September 25
Leeds (3) v Newcastle (2)

Missed this game cause we were away for our anniversary weekend in Atlanta. Leeds mgr. David O'Leary said after the match they should have been up 4 or 5 by the half. Leeds only scored 15 minutes from time to get the win. Lots of holes in defense. Shearer with 2 more. (did not see)

September 27
Liverpool (0) v Everton (1)

A great Merseyside Derby with lots of action and agressive play, including the Liverpool keeper, Westerveld, choking an Everton attacker (both were sent off). Lots of attacking by Liverpool as they tried to get back in it. Traitor Deitmar Hamann played but I never heard his name until the 26th minute and still hadn't seen him on the field. Great game - I'm glad for Everton. (tv)

There were several Champion's League Matches I watched (Barcelona v. Arsenal) and other Premiers, but I didn't write them down in timely fashion and cannot remember what all went on this month. Must do better in October.

MISC NOTES in the month of September

ManU has several below-par performances - 1-1 with Wimbledon and then ManU's Taibi allowed a Matt Le Tissier weak shot to pass right through his legs to draw with Southampton later in the month. And in the 5-nil early October defeat at Chelse Taibi was responsible for several goals as well. Unrest in the net at Old Trafford.

Temuri Ketsbaia gets a knee damaged and will be out 4-6 weeks.

Ferguson out with Groin problems

Robbie Fowler must have ankle operation - out 2-3 months.

(remember, I only write a match report on a game I either listen to in its entirety (unless noted) or personally view on tv.)

You can always drop a note to Cyndi or Myself and we will try to reply promptly. As always, please give us notice if you are heading 'over the pond' to the Disney area and we'll try to give you a heads up on any special things of interest (like the best deals on pints and where to watch the footy!).
