General Information about Cassia

Cassia, along with its 'reclassified name' (whatever that means) of Senna, is generally a southern/tropical, fast growing plant known for its yellow or brownish-yellow, buttercup-like flowers which adorn most of the plant in the fall or late summer.

It is a member of the Pea family (Fabaceae) and if growing from seeds, usually will benefit from an overnight soaking and scarification of the seed before planting. More info about Germination here.

Some wonderful names are associated with this species. Crown of Gold Tree, Golden Shower and Gold Medallion Tree are some of the common names attributed to this attractive species.

The Cassia is also a HOST PLANT to the Cloudless Sulphur Butterfly. For more info about butterflies, check the Butterfly Page.
